Lambing preparations 2026

‘He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will carry the lambs in his arms, holding them close to his heart. He will gently lead the mother sheep with their young.’ 

Isaiah 40:11

As March approaches we have been working hard to prepare physically and mentally for the arrival of our lambs. We had a fantastic team effort to bring the sheep in, prepare the barn and learn all we could from Will of Kilnyard farms about…well everything! Especially getting to grips with all the milking equipment! We’ve had a visit to Dizzy Dairy’s in Cornwall to see a sheep dairy in action and we’ve had a team ‘lambing training’ session at Pilgrims vets to give us some really great hands on training to get us familiar with medicines and birth manipulations! It was so encouraging to be learning alongside other local smallholders and first timers and the vets have been so supportive as we’ve dealt with new challenges such as an early aborted lamb in the fields and a case of mastitis in the barn, all valuable learning experiences that we hope to have less of in the future!
